About us

The beginnings of our restaurant date back to the distant year 1754. Although the original owners were not our ancestors, the name Čubr has been preserved ever since. We are a family business, with the hospitality tradition now passed down to the fourth generation.

At first, our ancestors mainly served cold dishes, but over the years, we have continuously refined our offerings. We are better known not for the dishes on our regular menu, but for the variety of delights that change with the seasons.
Our menu changes daily, so don’t hesitate to call and ask about the specialties we can serve you that day.

Each year, there’s time for a variety of social events. For several years now, we have been hosting the world-famous Beaujolais Nouveau wine tasting. This gathering has grown into a cherished tradition.

Prof. Dr. Janez Bogataj wrote about us:

Everything offered and developed at the restaurant Pri Čubru in the village of Križ pri Komendi is practically a textbook example and an answer to the question of what a Slovenian restaurant truly is and the extent of its hospitality.

Why so much positivity, and how do they manage it?

The answer is quite quick and clear: the restaurant is not just a place, but an experience that the family members nurture and develop from generation to generation. This is true for the Potočnik family, or as locals say, Pri Čubru, where Miha Potočnik, together with his wife Anita, their son Luka, and the rest of the kitchen and service team, leads and guides this excellent restaurant as the representative of the third generation. The restaurant is also a proud member of the world’s oldest gastronomic association—what we’d now call a network—Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

The restaurant’s roots trace back to the mid-18th century, and the Potočnik family has been bringing it to life since 1934. The current owner and restaurant owner, Miha Potočnik, together with his wife Anita, an excellent pastry chef, have enriched the family tradition with the knowledge they gained in culinary school. Their son Luka, who not only has exceptional culinary talent but also plays the accordion for guests, continues the skill once practiced by his grandmother Ivanka. When all the rooms of the restaurant are filled with expressions of hospitality, the Potočniks’ daughter Ana also steps in to help.
